* For Baptisms: Martirika are small lapel crosses given out at the end of the baptismal ceremony. They are worn by the guests as proof of witnessing the baptism. The Godmother or Godfather traditionally pin the ribbons on the jackets, shirts or dresses of the guests after the ceremony – either in the narthex of the church or at the reception. Martirika are also known as martyrika, martiriko (singular), christening pins, witness pins, or baptism pins.
*For Weddings, Anniversaries, and Special Occasions: Oftentimes, especially for weddings, martirika are given out at the reception of a special event. For example wedding witness pins may be inscribed with the couple's name at left and the event date at right. These martyrika tend to be more traditional in look.
